Bear Swamp State Forest
Trail Description
Bear Swamp State Forest is located in Cayuga County at the southwestern end of Skaneateles Lake. The state forest has 3,280 acres to explore and is known for the large wetland and creek that bisect the forest. There are over 13 miles of multi-use trails located in Bear Swamp State Forest, making it a very popular location for hikers, equestrians, bikers, x-c skiers and others. The state forest is the location of the highest point within Cayuga County at 1860 feet, which is located just off Yellow Trail 9.
Much of the marked trail system is double-track passing through nice forest land. As the name suggests, the trails can be quite muddy when wet. E-bikes are not allowed on any Region 7 NYS forest multi-use trails.
